Booms
Liver chestnut mare Height: 14.3hh Born: 2004 Joined WRDA: November 2013
Prior to joining RDA, Booms was used for pig hunting, and in her time here has become an incredibly reliable therapy horse who works in all our three core programmes, as well as having learned specific skills with her able-bodied rider to make her the ideal mount for our para riders to ride independently at walk and trot. In 2017 she won the NZRDA Horse of the Year, a title she very much deserved.
Flight
Dark bay gelding Height: 16.1hh Born: 2000 Joined WRDA: April 2022
Flight came from Auckland where he had been a competitive sport horse for most of his life, focusing on eventing and dressage, as well as lots of hacking. He joined us as a schoolmaster and shortly after arriving joined our Sport and Recreation programme where he works with the more independent riders, and he’s an absolutely rockstar, excelling in this area.
Hamish
Dark bay gelding Height: 14.3hh Born: 2003 Joined WRDA: April 2012
Hamish is our longest serving therapy horse. He’s a real gentleman, respected in the paddock, very reliable, and excels in all three of our core programmes, plus our EAGALA and Unmounted programmes. He loves getting out and about to explore Battle Hill, and we’re hoping to have many more years with him.
Jaffa
Bay mare Height: 14.1hh Born: 2000 Joined WRDA: July 2019
Jaffa is our “old lady,” but can certainly move when she wants to. She used to be a top pony at Auckland Central RDA, and now we are lucky enough to have her here at Wellington Group. She’s a great pony for our Sport & Recreation riders and is a bit of an independent girl in the paddock who likes her space.
Marley
Black mare Height: 14.2hh Born: 2015 Joined WRDA: March 2022
Marley came from Putāruru and settled in almost immediately to the RDA life. She is confident and brave with all arena resources and is a superstar in all the core RDA programmes.
Moana
Dark bay mare Height: 15hh Born: 2016 Joined WRDA: March 2021
Moana came from Palmerston North as a rapidly growing 4-year-old. She had been started and done farm hacking. We took it slow with Moana’s early training due to the fact she was still growing. Now that she has filled out and grown, she is in all three core RDA programmes, and has proven herself to be brave, kind, and really enjoying her RDA work.
Moby
Liver chestnut gelding Height: 14.2hh Born: 2004 Joined WRDA: April 2019
Moby also joined us from Auckland Central RDA where he was a paddock mate of Jaffa’s. He was our “golden ticket” who had several other RDAs interested in him. He’s a real delight, excellent in all three core programmes plus our EAGALA and unmounted sessions. He’s popular in the herd and he’s loving WRDA as much as we’re loving him.
Tonka
Black gelding Height: 14hh Born: 2009 Joined WRDA: March 2015
Tonka is our teddy bear pony, in looks and personality, which makes him a hit with all his riders. He’s always looking for fun and he has a big character. He’s the apple of our head coach Claire’s eye! Tonka works well in our Education and Therapy programmes, as well as the Unmounted programme.
