Prior to joining RDA, Booms was used for pig hunting, and in her time here has become an incredibly reliable therapy horse who works in all our three core programmes, as well as having learned specific skills with her able-bodied rider to make her the ideal mount for our para riders to ride independently at walk and trot. In 2017 she won the NZRDA Horse of the Year, a title she very much deserved.

Flight came from Auckland where he had been a competitive sport horse for most of his life, focusing on eventing and dressage, as well as lots of hacking. He joined us as a schoolmaster and shortly after arriving joined our Sport and Recreation programme where he works with the more independent riders, and he’s an absolutely rockstar, excelling in this area.

Hamish is our longest serving therapy horse. He’s a real gentleman, respected in the paddock, very reliable, and excels in all three of our core programmes, plus our EAGALA and Unmounted programmes. He loves getting out and about to explore Battle Hill, and we’re hoping to have many more years with him.

Indi has the most gentle sweet way about her is and is a beautiful bay, making her very
similar in looks to our lovely Moana. Indi has come to WRDA on lease and very quickly learnt the ropes to join our ride therapy programme and is versatile across our programmes. She is brave will all our arena activities and very affectionate to her riders
and leaders. Indi has lots of admirers and is very well liked by everyone at WRDA. Before joining our team in October 2023 Indi was a very good pony club pony and had a particularly fantastic jumping background.

Jaffa is our “old lady,” but can certainly move when she wants to. She used to be a top pony at Auckland Central RDA, and now we are lucky enough to have her here at Wellington Group. She’s a great pony for our Sport & Recreation riders and is a bit of an independent girl in the paddock who likes her space.

Marley came from Putāruru and settled in almost immediately to the RDA life. She is confident and brave with all arena resources and is a superstar in all the core RDA programmes.

Moana came from Palmerston North as a rapidly growing 4-year-old. She had been started and done farm hacking. We took it slow with Moana’s early training due to the fact she was still growing. Now that she has filled out and grown, she is in all three core RDA programmes, and has proven herself to be brave, kind, and really enjoying her RDA work.

Moby also joined us from Auckland Central RDA where he was a paddock mate of Jaffa’s. He was our “golden ticket” who had several other RDAs interested in him. He’s a real delight, excellent in all three core programmes plus our EAGALA and unmounted sessions. He’s popular in the herd and he’s loving WRDA as much as we’re loving him.

Penny is a very sweet older lady. Penny has come to WRDA on lease and is working hard behind the scenes to learn the RDA way, familiarise and desensitise with all our various arena activities and get ready to join our ride therapy programmes. Penny has settled
into the herd well. Before joining our team in May 2024 Penny was a riding lesson pony for her owner Chelsea. Penny was very reliable pony in the riding school, and this gives her a great amount of previous life experience to join WRDA with.

Sam is a good looking chap, grey in colour with dark grey highlights in his mane and tail.
Sam is very brave by nature and takes everything in his stride. He has an excellent walk stride and is a popular therapy horse choice for many riders in all three of our ride
programmes, therapy, education and sport and rec.  Sam has lots of admirers and is very well liked by everyone at WRDA. Before Joining WRDA Sam was extensively trekked out and about, over hills, at the beach and down the busy Whitby roads that were close to his previous home!! Sam's trekking background was excellent proof of his brave and willing nature.

Scout is a big loveable lad, with a curious and playful nature. Scout is very well liked by
our volunteers, riders, coaching team and his therapy horse peers. You will often catch him playing in the paddock with his friends when he's not in the arena. Still just a youngster he has made a fantastic start in his RDA career. Scout has riders in both the education and therapy ride programmes currently. Scout is only working with a limited number of riders at this stage due to his young age, and as he continues to progress and develop his RDA knowledge his rider numbers will also increase. Being only young on arrival at WRDA, Sam didn't have a lot of mileage. He had been lightly schooled and trekked. However his calm and quiet nature and his willingness to learn meant he as not fazed at all by our arena resources and activities.

Timmy is a big handsome lad, standing at 16.1 hh and nearly the same in width. Timmy will be an excellent addition to our therapy team as a weight carrier, and will be used in
our Therapy and Sport and Rec programmes. Timmy has a very curious and friendly
nature and he would do anything for a snack! Timmy joined WRDA in May 2024 and his WRDA training is well underway. Timmy is taking everything in his stride as he learns all about WRDA activities, ramps, wheelchairs and various rider positions. Timmy also enjoys trekking out over the farm for variety in his training.  Before joining our team Timmy had been enjoying dressage and trekking with his previous owner.

Tonka is our teddy bear pony, in looks and personality, which makes him a hit with all his riders. He’s always looking for fun and he has a big character. He’s the apple of our head coach Claire’s eye! Tonka works well in our Education and Therapy programmes, as well as the Unmounted programme.
