Thank You to Our Funders and Supporters

Like many community organisations, Wellington RDA is reliant on the generosity of gaming trusts, government funders and local supporters to enable us to continue to provide an affordable service to our community. Owning horses and caring for the land required to maintain them is a major overhead expense in itself. Combine this with the cost of contracting specialist coaches and staff in order to provide a high quality service that is delivering real and positive outcomes for people with disabilities and the overall cost of our operations multiplies. At Wellington RDA we are extremely grateful for the community funds we receive and do our utmost to ensure we utilise these funds in a responsible manner and provide a value for money service to our community.

This term, we would like to share a special thanks to the funders and supporters that have helped us so far in 2015.

NZCT really came to our aid when we made the decision to go more professional in the last few years through contracting professional coaches and the implementation of an Operations Manager. They have been an enduring supporter that cares about the impact our small group makes in our community alongside the vast numbers of other large groups they support.

Infinity Foundation is another funder who is always there for us. We really enjoy being asked to be in their brochures and impart our story to others through our relationship with them. They have been supportive of all our programmes.

COGS and NZ Lotteries have been solid supporters for many years now, helping with the costs of contractors, volunteer expenses and volunteer training allowing such things as our Coaches to attend the annual National Training Seminar to learn from international specialists, right down to the costs of our toilet paper and teabags for our Volunteers.

Porirua City Council and Wellington City Council have taken to helping us the last few years with people and administration costs.

Wellington Central Rotary came on board as a wonderful supporter in the last three years and have helped us purchase new horses as well as provide for their ongoing care. This has been much needed for our programmes since we retired some of our best horses a couple of years ago.

Mana Community Grants Foundation has also been generous in helping us with small amounts of horse care funding. Our horses are our greatest assets and caring for our horses effectively is critical to the success of our riding programme. We ensure the soundness of our horses through specialised farrier care, the physical and mental welfare of our horses through correct food and nutrition, worming and dentistry, and the comfort and sense of wellbeing through annual saddlery, physio and veterinary checks.

Lion Foundation helped us again this year with some support towards out Administrator and Paddock Person costs.

St David’s Fund Methodist Church of NZ and Wellington Methodist Charitable and Educational Endowments Trust have become fantastic supporters of our Eagala Programme enabling groups from low decile schools to come and experience confidence building with horses.

Occasionally we receive one off donations from a group. This year we received $2,500 from IOOF NZ (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) who ceased to operate last year, and their remaining funds were donated to various charities - WRDA being one of those.

We also receive numerous small donations from individuals, which we are also very grateful for. Of note is a donation of $1000 from Pam and Cal Templeton from the sale of horse gear that belonged to their daughter Kirsty McClea who sadly passed away.

All these donations add up to help WRDA continue to provide a great service and to help change lives of people with disabilities in our community.

Thank you also to our other funders that continue to support us year after year and who include: Four Winds Foundation, Nikau Foundation, Pub Charity, The Trusts Community Foundation, Winton & Margaret Bear Charitable Trust, Joan Becca Trust, John Illot Charitable Trust, Kiwifirst, Pelorus Trust, NZRDA Perpetual Members Trust, NZ Community Post, Charles Leslie Turner Charitable Perpetual Trust, PWC Foundation, QBE Insurance, Nick Lingard Foundation
